MiniCity 250 uses the tested CYM colour changing system, patent pending, developed by Studio Due that has dichroic filters and allows a progressive and gradual colouring of the entire light beam. The result is continuous, endless shades and colour saturations.
MiniCity 250 also has a new optic system with an opening angle, which can be varied from 15° to 20°, driven by two stepper motors. The lamp source is HSD/MSD/2 250 which offers a long 2000 hours of lamp life.
MiniCity 250 has a new mechanical structure, internal cooling system and LED displays to programme and monitor the fixture. It has an IP rating of 66 making the fixture ideal for outdoors applications as well as indoors.
Twenty-eight programmes are pre-programmed into the fixture so it can be configured without a control system. There is also with a Master/ Slave setting.

Until now commercial and architectural lighting controls have generally been served by two independent systems with interfacing provided via volt-free contacts. With its latest lighting control module, iLight has integrated both the commercial and architectural functions within a single system, providing a fully integrated solution in terms of both hardware and software.
The new SCH1000T is a 10-way pluggable lighting control module. Most commercial lighting control products have only eight output ports on the lighting control module which can cause problems when dealing with a regular ceiling grid. The iLight system’s 10 outputs will enable a 3 x 3 or 2 x 5 luminaire matrix, creating shorter cable lengths to the lights, as well as reducing the total number of units required. The system is easy to install since all connections are via a plug and socket arrangement. As part of the iCAN range, the LCM utilizes the iCAN network - a data connection system that connects all of the devices together and enables them to communicate with one another in an intelligent manner. The iCAN network is based on the CAN bus network and uses standard CAT 5 FTP cable for data cabling.
Utilizing the Windows platform, the software has been arranged to use standard Windows methods of selection and navigation presenting the user with a tool for operating the lighting that is familiar and easy to use.

The Pixel Par 665 is the first product from the Pixel stable created by
James Thomas Engineering. The Pixel Par 665 is so called because it contains
665 high intensity LED's. It consumes a fraction of the power that any
other lamp uses, ie 3 watts in blackout ramping up to a maximum of 67
watts on full up. No heat is radiated forwards in the beam, with 67 watts
dissipated by the patent pending heat exchanger, behind the lamp.
The fitting is IP54 rated for external use as well as internal. 2500 lamp
changes are required before you reach the lifetime of the leds arrays.
Less heat = less air conditioning, reducing power bill further.
No need for colour filters. No need for heavy multicore, i.e. a 40 truss
with 10 six lamp bars could be fed from one 16 amp radial circuit (one
extension lead). No need for dimmer system.s

The applications are

and an optional inverter that will give control of four lights for a 12-hour
shoot from one 12-volt battery.
Advantages to
the installation market are: immediate energy savings that become possible
with less air conditioning; a 95% reduction in running costs, and a maintenance
free device, with no filters or lamps to change.
Exterior applications
are interesting, because you could design the lights to fit into awkward
positions to best illuminate a piece of architecture. Considering that
no lamps need to be changed, the lights don't need to be positioned in
accessible places.

Starmax International has introduced the SX800 - a 10W, air-cooled, laser luminaire. Based around Starmax’s proprietary solid-state laser technology, the SX800 incorporates an innovative DPSS YAG laser which produces a brilliant 10W green output, enough power for the most demanding concert, nightclub and outdoor applications. The SX800’s features include: an integral beam scanning system coupled with a pan and tilt mirror to project beam arrays and atmospheric effects over a 180 x 45 degree area; full DMX control of all laser functions, scanned effects and mirror positioning, requiring only 115 VAC at 15 amps.

Avolites has launched its first installation dimmer - the ART2000i Install Dimmer - the latest addition to its ART 2000 digital series. The dimmer, which is aimed at theatrical, architectural, leisure and retail applications, has the same high specification as other dimmers in the ART 2000 range. It is currently available in modules of 24 x 16 Amp units or 12 x 32 Amp, and each Avolites ART Installation System is available in hybrid mixes of the two modules.

ARRI’s new Pocket Par systems are the ultimate small location lighting fixture, allowing the user to simply choose the wattage, reflector system and accessories required, such as the new Pocket Lite and Pocket Lighthouse.
The low-heat 200W and 400W Pocket Par system represent the latest development in ARRI’s line of high-performance daylight lampheads. Artistic Licence has launched two new DMX512 splitters: DMX-Split RDM and Rack-Split RDM. As the product names suggest, both are designed to support the forthcoming ESTA Remote Device Management protocol. RDM (officially BSR E1.20) is currently in development by the ESTA Technical Standards Program, of which Artistic Licence is an active participant.
RDM will have a major impact on all areas of lighting control. In essence, RDM allows data to flow in both directions on a DMX512 cable. Existing DMX equipment uses the first three pins of the XLR connector to send control data from the console to the moving lights or dimmers. RDM allows data to return (still using the first three pins) from the moving lights and dimmers. There are many benefits, but most significant is that the console can now ask ‘Who's out there?’. The moving lights reply in sequence, telling the console who they are, and how many channels they use.
Then the clever part - the console can automatically assign DMX start addresses to all of the moving lights! No more climbing around the truss looking for that mis-patched light! RDM also allows the status of devices to be monitored, so users could opt to receive a warning when the smoke fluid runs low or a dimmer channel overheats.
The new DMX splitters provide all the electronics needed for this next generation of technology and of course work perfectly with 'ordinary' DMX512.

Navigator Systems Ltd have come up with a solution which will ensure that companies who own ‘demo’ stock achieve the best possible return on their investment. Following several months of discussions with sales representatives, Navigator discovered that for some keeping track of the ‘demo’ stock had turned into a logistical nightmare. Items such as mixing desks, projectors, plasma screens and lighting consoles had either been forgotten or simply gone missing.
By adding several new features to its rental management software system RentalDesk, Navigator Systems have now made it possible to search quickly and easily for the ‘First Available Date’ for the ‘demo’ item required. Thus, if a company requests a mixing desk for a five-day period in June, the sales rep can check whether it’s available for that period and if it isn't, give the client the next best alternative date. This will ensure that the ‘demo’ item is being used efficiently and sales stock will not have to be used because of a double-booking that wasn't taken into account. Ex-demo stock will therefore not accumulate and will not have to be sold at vastly reduced prices. It is also possible to record the exact location of the "demo" item.

Wybron has revealed the latest development for its Autopilot II: automated camera control. The company's popular control system, created to turn regular moving lights into automated followspots, now also allows a camera to follow moving objects or people automatically.
First demonstrated at PLASA 2001, where visitors to Wybron's stand could see themselves captured on a camera controlled by the Autopilot II, the system should prove invaluable to smaller television or film production companies, where staff are at a minimum. Easily operated, a transmitter carried by a presenter or actor sends out signals to receivers, which are connected to the Autopilot II controller. Mounted onto a moveable platform controlled by the Autopilot II software, a camera will then follow the person carrying the transmitter, ensuring they're kept in the frame. The Autopilot II was used with High End Technobeams on Witches of Eastwick at the Prince of Wales theatre in London to track the three witches in the flying scene.

With the arrival of the ProWash 575 LX, Coemar have inserted the final piece into the LX Series jigsaw. The 575 helps to complete Coemar’s comprehensive range of moving head fixtures, designed to meet the specific requirements of a broad spectrum of market sectors, in both fixed and rental application.
The fixture is a 575W MSD moving head fresnel, offering 385° pan and 260° tilt movement and 16-bit beam positioning, in which movement and blackout effect can be synchronized. The Wife is a sophisticated DMX and MIDI analyser that is remarkably compact and simple to operate. More than just an excellent faultfinder, the Wife provides all the features regularly required by stage technicians.
As a small hand-held DMX 512 receiver and transmitter, the Wife can operate as a moving lamp tester, a flicker finder or as a rigger's remote. It is powered by an internal rechargeable battery with a normal life of 25 hours, and uses a high brightness backlit LCD screen.
The Wife could hardly be simpler to operate. Users who are familiar with either DMX 512 or MIDI find that a quick scan of the manual is enough to get started. Switch on, and the Wife immediately begins to display received DMX512. Two key presses are all that is required to start flashing through the rig.
The built-in fixture personality library can test all the attributes of over 200 lamps. Up to 36 channel attributes can be tested, and the fixture library can be edited and customised.
Also available are 12 preset memories, which contain individual level settings for all 512 channels. Presets can be programmed with pre-defined patterns, by adjusting individual channels or by capturing received data. All data is held in flash memory, so that your preferred settings are always kept intact.
The Auto-Backup feature allows the Wife to be connected in-line between a lighting desk and dimmers. The Wife monitors received DMX512 and, should the signal fail, switches one of the 12 Presets to the output. When the backup mode is triggered, the user can snap between presets.
The Wife is also equipped with a Dark Level feature that allows the channels normally at zero in the 'Rig Check' or 'Transmit Dynamic' modes to be set to a level. This is effectively a pre-heat function and can significantly improve lamp life, as the lamp filaments are kept warm during rig check.
There is also a handy Power Save option that can also be disabled to allow the Wife to transmit continuously. This is particularly useful when being used as a battery powered DMX buffer.
The Wife DMX Tester also comes with a nice protective pouch and a set of 5 pin / 3 pin converters.

With the new improved HTI® metal halide lamps from OSRAM, original equipment manufacturers, designers and endusers can continue to hit the heights in entertainment lighting.
Thanks to innovative XS (eXtreme Seal) technology, Osram have managed to increase the maximum pinch temperature from 350 °C to 450 °C. For equipment manufacturers this means more compact luminaire designs as a smaller space is required and areduced need for forced cooling resulting in less noise from cooling fans.

Australia's premier contemporary dance company, Grapham Murphy's Sydney Dance Company, have developed a new production called Ellipse, which features, on-stage, use of a fully motorised 4K HMI De Sisti Rembrandt Piccolo.
At a meeting between Coemar De Sisti's Australia's Peter Kemp (MD) and Richie Mickan (Technical Products Manager) and Sydney Dance Company's Graeme Murphy (Choreography & Concept), John Henderson (Production Manager) Nick Broun (Development Manager) and Hugh Hamilton (Head Electrician), the dance company concept was explained. CDA were very happy to be able to suggest that a standard lighting system from De Sisti Italy, the ICARUS, met the specifications exactly.
The Icarus system is fully customisable, and for this production features a Rembrandt Piccolo 4kW HMI fresnel in the motorised pan-tilt-focus Icarus housing. Combined with the luminiare is a De Sisti DEB 2500/4000W Dual flicker free electronic ballast. The fixture is mounted on a De Sisti motorised telescope, allowing for vertical movement of the unit, with the telescope located on a motorised trolley that runs along a 14m I-beam across the stage. Total system control is via DMX512 and all necessary cabling systems are included.
In addition to the De Sisti component of the lighting design, a Compulite Sunset douser/scroller has been added to the fixture for additional control and variety in the show. The Sydney Dance Company's specific requirements for the system included features such as specific motor travel speed and 16 bit accuracy for all movement parameters, all of which the Icarus system was easily able to meet.
In conjunction with the IES, ALIA hopes to be organising a tour to the Melbourne season of this production.

Wybron innovation steps up again to help customers get more from their light fixtures. This time it’s the Eclipse II, a DMX-controlled dowser that does mechanically what can’t be done electronically – dimming HMI and other “non-dimmable” lights across the full spectrum of brightness, from pitch dark to brightest light. HMI’s and other discharge fixtures are the lamps of choice for many entertainment applications, including arenas and stadiums, because of their intense white light. The only drawback is that they can’t be dimmed precluding the use of slow fades and quick power ups. The Eclipse II remedies this shortcoming by mechanically dowsing the light while the power stays on.
The Eclipse II uses fins in an aperture-like configuration that provides a clear advantage: no loss of light. The Eclipse II comes in two models: 7.5” and 24” and can be adapted to mount on a wide variety of fixtures.
Both are DMX programmable and are driven by any Wybron Coloram II Power Supply. Both units self-monitor for health and status using Wybron’s Watchdog Monitoring System. The Eclipse II is truly another bright idea from Wybron.

Altman Lighting introduces the Jazz Strip, using a wide range of 12V MR-16 tungsten halogen lamps. This luminaire is available in four standard lengths, related to the number of color washes desired. It is lighter and has a shorter profile than its predecessors. Narrow spot, medium, and wide flood lamps are efficiently incorporated into the luminaire without trapping appreciable light. Recessed front-mounted neon indicator lights note lamp failure. Spring-loaded lamp holders provide secure positioning of the lamps to hold them in place while touring. This narrow luminaire allows it to be used in closely spaced battens or in tight spaces where a general wash of light from the top, side, or bottom is desired.

add IR/DMX Translator module to its Fluo-Tec line of fluorescent fixtures
Lowel-Lite has added an IR/DMX Translator module to its Fluo-Tec line
of fluorescent fixtures. Lowel has an IR DMX Controller for the line that
allows control of up to 64 dimmable Fluo-Tec fixtures without a console.
The translator increases the flexibility of this controller by allowing
communication with any DMX controllable dimmer. The compact IR/DMX Translator
module is connected in-line at the start of the DMX dimming chain and
allows the controller to send commands to dim any DMX fixture or device.
The Fluo-Tec line of fluorescent fixtures are also now CE-approved.
